Perhaps you have noticed the title and are wondering what the author has in mind.  The answer is as easy as consulting your dictionary.  Lost (lawst) 1. Without direction. 2. Misspent; squandered; wasted. 3. Forfeited.  4. Bewildered; perplexed. 5. Ruined, physically or morally.  6. Ignorant of one’s whereabouts. All of these terms could be used to describe my life during the summer of 1976, and they could be applied to the years that preceded them as well.  The big problem was that I was not aware of my condition.  In looking back, I now know that I was coasting through life. There is only one way you can coast, and that is downhill.  As I coasted through life, I was continually going downhill.  Eventually, I hit the bottom, and I had no idea of how to change direction.  This is the true story of some of my life’s events that took me to the bottom and how God picked me up, forgave my sin, and placed my name in the Lamb’s Book of Life, and helped me become a productive citizen and a follower of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Perhaps you have recently hit bottom or find yourself without direction?  You can come to know the same God that I found in the wee hours of September 7th, 1976, when I held a loaded gun to my head and contemplated suicide.  I am still here today because I cried out to God that I was so sorry for the mess I had made of my life and if there was any way I could get another chance, I would never go that way again.  God can and will give you a new beginning if you will but cry out to him.  “Behold I stand at the door and knock.  If any man (or woman) hear My voice, I will come into him and sup with him.”  Do you hear God knocking?  You are the only one who can open the door to your life.  That door is not opened by going to church or living a good life.  The door cannot be opened by being confirmed or having a Bible on your coffee table.  Likewise, it cannot be opened by being born into a Christian family. It cannot even be opened by the Christ who is knocking.  It can only be opened by you and admitting that you are a sinner who is in need of God’s love and forgiveness.  Christ’s cruel death on the cross for our sins paid the price for our redemption.  The apostle Paul wrote the same thing to the believers at Corinth, Chapter 5 and verse 21. “He made Him (Christ) who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  Christ was blameless and lived a perfect life.  His life was sacrificed for us in order that we might not be judged for our own sin.  The disciple John echoed the same thought in John 1:29.  “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”  For some two thousand years Christians around the world have observed Christ’s death on the cross through the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  Christ’s shed blood can take away your sins just like it did mine.  Hear the apostle Paul from Romans 10, verses 9 and 13.  “Confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead and you shall be saved.”  “For whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  Will you call out to God in prayer right now?  Verse 11 of that same chapter tells the reader that “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
